Challenger
|
The Little League Challenger Program is Little League’s adaptive baseball program for individuals with physical and intellectual challenges. Any individual with a physical or learning difference may participate.
|
AA, AAA and majors division teams are chosen via the draft following player evaluations. For many children each division, beginning with the A division, will be a two year stop. Our goal is for the first year in a division is to learn and develop by playing with more experienced and skilled players, while the second year will offer the player an opportunity to be a leader and develop at positions they might not otherwise be able to play if they advanced divisions each year.
Teams are chosen through a draft except in the challenger, tee ball, and A divisions. All players age 7-12 are expected to participate in tryouts. One of the most important duties for a AA through majors division manager is to attend player tryouts and participate in the draft. The objective of the draft is to divide talent equally among all the teams in a division.
Tournament Team Selection Process
Upon the conclusion of the regular Little League season, an all-star team is named for each of the 9-, 10-, 11- and 12-year-old age groups as well as the juniors and seniors divisions. These teams will represent Quito-Saratoga Little League in postseason tournament play running from the middle of June through the middle of July. Tournaments may run longer depending upon the age group. All-star selection is recognition of the best players in the league within a given age group, and the players are expected to fulfill the obligations associated with this honor, which include attending mandated practices and tournament games. During the spring season the details of the commitment for players and their families will be made available.
The selection process will include four groups: players, managers and coaches, board members, and volunteer umpires. Each group will be given a ballot of all eligible players, specific to the age groups that they have been a part of coaching, umpiring, managing or playing alongside. Board members will be given the option to vote on all age groups. Each groups votes will be verified by the board of directors, or a designated all-star selection committee. Once verified, the teams will be announced on June 1 to the general body.
